Bulgur, Tabouli Salad

15-07-2009

tabouli

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Bulgur
  • 1.5 cups Water
  • 2 tbs Chicken stock powder
  • Dried mint
  • Frozen peas
  • 2 Roasted peppers (from a jar)
  • Feta cheese
  • 1 Chopped spring onion
  • Sultanas
  • Chopped deseeded cucumber
  • 1.5 tbs lemon juice

Prepare the bulgur by boiling the water and adding the chicken stock powder, dried mint, frozen peas and bulgur. Turn off the gas and cover your pan. Leave this for 15 minutes.

Prepare the rest of the ingredients, chop the roasted peppers, spring onions and cucumber. To finish the dish add everything together et voila, yummy fresh tabouli.

Not claiming this to be an authentic dish, it’s our take on a carby salad. Just add anything you like to taste. Other versions have included: roasted cashews, chick peas, semi-dried tomatoes and roasted aubergine.

Busy bee

28-06-2009

Busy day last saturday. Started it with buying a new video card for my ancient (2001) pc. Still working super and apart from the video card and small monitor it’s still up to standard. Been alife for longer than my 2007 macbook, whose battery has deceased.
From the video card to a dim sum lunch at Tai Wu. We had turnip cake, haam su koh, shrimp cheung fan and mapo tofu with rice.

After lunch, grocery shopping and some catfood for Banat. She decided to starve herself rather than eat something that is not Fit 32.

Because we rarely ever go out, we decided to go out saturday evening. First at an outside table in Rotterdam where service was pretty bad. We were ready to get the tab, but they kept ignoring us eventhough the terras was half empty.

In the spur of the moment we went for the beach in Scheveningen. We weren’t the only ones as it took some time to find a parking spot. By then the beach had got extremely foggy. We walked the boulevard and pier and then went for a drink at Bora Bora beach club. Romantic cushiony sofa, torches and candles. It was like a miniature holiday.

For late night munchies a stop at Mickey D’s on the way home.

Here’s to more days like this one.

I got infected by the Sims 3 hype. Got a problem though. It wont run on my ancient computer (2001)! It’s fast enough, has enough space, enough RAM, but I’m missing the 2.0 pixel shading support. :*(
So hey we still have an iMac.. yes it wont run on that one either.

*weep*

No I’m not going to buy a new computer to be able to play Sims. I’ll stick to WoW and my Bubbles.

I love it! :D

Have a Picknick

25-04-2009

Had breakfast at Picknick (formerly Proef) today. We ordered the Picknick Platter. Which consists of several toppings and as much bread as you like. They bring the platter to the table and then at the bread section you cut as much bread as you like.

Our platter (9 euro’s per person)

picknick breakfast platter

From top to bottom, left to right: Onion relish, treacle, obatzda (camembert, beer and onion dip), mushrooms, butter, cured ham, salami, aged cheese, garden cress, young cheese. Together with the dark sour dough bread which had a salt and sesame crust. Oh and we had scones with strawberry jelly and cream for desert. *nom nom nom* They were gone before I could take a picture.

After breakfast we went to the library. We got Stephen King, Patricia Cornwell and Douglas Coupland.

Bought smancy shoes for the bf at Manfield. I tried a dress at WE, which looked horrible and bulky at the top and cute at the bottom. I didn’t buy it :(. Only got a make-up brush at Sephora’s for myself.

After all that some grocery shopping.

Great saturday! o/

Shopping spree

08-04-2009

After getting some ideas, inspiration and brainwashing online I decided it was time to have a little make up shopping spree. Mind you, my sprees aren’t that extreme.

I always had a problem with eyeshadow coverage and always stuck to the same black and brown colors. I wanted to experiment somewhat, but didn’t want to buy a lot of seperate colors. Eureka the solution.

88_palette

I was a bit hesitant at first. At a price of 18 euro’s incl shipping (ebay) I thought it was a bit cheap. This palette is absolutely fantastic though. Heavy pigmented, lots of colors, nice packaging. Been experimenting a bit, but still need more pratce.

Now my second buy. I’ve been looking for the right foundation for a while. Always ended up buying the wrong color or the wrong type of foundation. Finally figured out I needed one with a yellow base instead of a pink base. Once went to a local store specialised in ethnic make up. It was just my luck that the professional employees were at a some trade fair and left a n00b in charge. Again I left with a pink based foundation.

Then the height of mineral foundations. I got some and the color was great. Downside is that my skin is pretty dry and mineral foundation is the nemesis of dry skin.

Drum roll… I had seen Zhen Beauty cosmetics before. And finally bought “Matte Foundation” in the color Bamboo. I got it through ebay, because of paypal. I wasn’t sure which color to chose so with my Bamboo I got a free sample of Almond foundation and Cashew powder. Great customer service, but even better.. I love the foundation.

On http://www.makeupalley.com/ I read Zhen Beauty might be going bust though. I hope they’ll stay alive.

A bit of chocolate..

Chocolate Overload

Inspired by the Joy of Baking Truffle Tart recipe I created this chocolate monster.

I made a few adaptations, because of the different measurements. And I wasn’t able to get biscotti biscuits.

For the base:

  • 225 grams of Almond cookies
  • 75 grams of melted butter

Filling:

  • 250 ml whipping cream
  • 300 grams of 72% chocolate

Grind the cookies and add the butter. Put it in a lined backing tin and create a border. Bake for 15 minutes on 190C and let it cool.

For the filling, break up the chocolate and pour over the whipping cream that has been heated up to boiling point. Let it rest for 5 minutes to melt the chocolate. Then stir to make the ganache. Pour onto the base and when it’s cool enough, let it set in the fridge. Perferably overnight.

72% chocolate is a bit much. I think I’ll try 200 grams 72% and 100 grams of milk chocolate the next time. Also the base stays very crumbly, if I’m not lazy I’ll try short crust next time.

Still a yummy chocolate monster though *drool*.

Breathe in breathe out

27-03-2009

So apparently I got a virus thingy. My browser was hijacked. I started to worry that perhaps I needed to format my HD. My browser searches got redirected to bum websites. Regedit closed on it’s own, some sites caused my browser to shut down.

The information I found didn’t help me much and my AVG virus scanner decided to take a couple of day of and said that everything was a-okay.

Then I stumbled onto MiekieMoes, what an absolute lifesaver. Miekiemoes is win. o/
